I think having my master’s degree in clinical psychology puts me in a unique spot to help clients get through a family court issue. So for example, when I was in graduate school, I did my master’s paper on the effects of mindfulness meditation on depression and anxiety. I have had a mindfulness meditation practice over the years that has been beneficial to me and I can recommend that technique to clients and answer questions about it and help them develop a practice if they want to, to get through what can be an often difficult proceeding. I also think that having a master’s degree in clinical psychology gives me the ability to communicate well with clients. I have training in active listening and I can also coach clients on how to interact with a difficult ex-spouse or current spouse. I can give them advice on what are the dynamics at play and what is the best way to handle those often difficult dynamics.
